The purpose of this site is to chronicle my journey through FlightGear and to share those experiences with others who want to get involved with this open source flight simulator. FlightGear can be daunting. It is not necessarily a program for the casual flight simmer. But taken in small steps, anyone can learn to install, use and modify it to almost any level. If you've got that itch, FlightGear will let you scratch it.
The site will grow as I learn the intricacies of FGFS. As I learn more, I'll post more. My solutions may not be applicable to your system--but they may give you ideas as to how to handle something. Having said that, I suppose it would be nice to let you know what I'm running:
| FGFS Release | 0.9.10 |
| Operating System | Open Suse Linux, 10.1 |
| CPU | Pentium 4, 1.50GHz |
| RAM | 512MB |
| Video | GeForce3 Ti 200 |
| Joystick | Logitech Extreme 3D Pro |
My interest in the early years of flight and 3d modelling naturally led me to flight simulators. I've been building models for a number of years for Micro Flight and Virtual Sailor. However, a few years ago I decided it was time to switch operating systems and I've tried a number of Linux distributions. Suse has remained my favorite because of its ease of installation and use. However, I greatly miss simulators and building models for them. I think FGFS will fill the void for flight. Now, I just need a good cross-platform sailing simluator! One of the major reasons for building this site is to document the tools and techniques I use to scratch this itch.
