25mm Classical Greeks

I've had a couple of bags of unpainted Old Glory Greeks hanging around the house for at least 15 years. Since OG figures have a tendancy to be poorly cast I had not done anything with them because they needed so much cleaning. But I recently traded some Foundery Darkest Africa figures for cleaning, priming and basic painting services. I finished them up and was quite happy with them. This is the right flank of the phalanx.

As a matter of fact, I was so happy with the finished product that I decided to augment the phalanx with some cavalry and archers. I happened upon Vendel Miniature's site and thought I'd give them a try. I'm a happy puppy!

Of course, every heavy infantry army needs some light troops to keep it company. More Old Glory figures.

This shot shows almost the entire length of my phalanx. A full 48 hoplites mounted for DBA/DBM. But my intention is to player The Perfect Captain's 'Hoplomachia' once I've built up enough figures.

This is the left flank of the phalanx. I tinkered with print-your-own shield decals but eventually abandoned the idea as it turned out to be more time consuming than just painting the shields by hand

The center of the phalanx. The archers and cavalry are Vendel miniatures. As a matter of fact, I just received another 60 Vendel figures to fill out the ranks. They tend to be slightly larger than Old Glory figures but I'm quite taken with the range as a whole.
